Housing the south section of Balboa Park, Golden Hill is known for its long and colorful history and for its beautiful historic homes. Home styles vary in size and architecture from Victorian, Colonial Revival, Craftsman and Farm house bungalows. This neighborhood is an outskirt of the Downtown San Diego area which attracted people in the 1870’s due to its large lots and beautiful panoramic views of the San Diego Bay. Today, you can still see many of the same homes that were there 70 to 80 years ago, many of them converted into law firms and other offices, others have been restored as homes. The central area of Golden Hill lies on 25th Street and Broadway where you will find many small restaurants, galleries, and antique stores. One particular restaurant that residents have treasured for many years is the Turf Supper Club which was restored recently. There you can cook your own steak while listening to an old style jukebox.
