Homeowners Saturday Service
The City of San Diego Development Services Department has Saturday hours
just for homeowners. Appointments are available Saturday mornings from
8 to 11 a.m. by calling (619) 446-5300. Book your appointment in advance,
as this is a popular service.
This service is now held at the Development
Services Field Office in Kearny Mesa, 9601 Ridgehaven Court, Suite
220, with ample, free parking.
Saturday Service is offered as a convenience for homeowners who can’t
make it to the Development Services Center during regular weekday business
hours, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Wednesdays 9 a.m.
to 5 p.m.; and Fridays 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
To maximize your appointment with staff and expedite processing of your
project, please have the following when you arrive:
- Your total set of plans. For over the counter projects, applicants
need to bring (3) sets of building construction plans.
- A property plot plan.
- Homeowners’ association approval (if necessary).
- Specify whether your project is a remodel/additions to existing single/duplex
dwelling units.
- Complete the General Application
Form (Form Filler - PDF: 335K)and part II of the Parcel
Information Checklist (PIC) (Form Filler - PDF: 194K).
Building Inspectors are also available at Homeowners Saturday Service
in addition to plan review staff. Homeowners can have their plans reviewed,
as well as ask any type of question of the inspectors
Projects include decks, retaining walls, patio covers, single-story
room additions, interiors remodels and garages, among others. The homeowner
must be present for the appointments. Contractors and other construction
professionals wanting to process plans over-the-counter are not eligible
for Homeowners’ Saturday Service.
Homeowners can prepare plans or bring professional plans for review.
You can do the work on your own home or hire a contractor to perform
it. If you, the homeowner, are not doing the work yourself, Workers Compensation
Insurance must be obtained; the department will require you to present
a Workers Compensation Insurance Certificate.
