Technical Assistance CoordinationThe City of San Diego provides a variety of services to small businesses through the Office of Small Business and by partnering with local small business assistance organizations and non-profits. Through these partnerships, the City of San Diego is leveraging the resources of existing business assistance organizations to enhance much-needed services for San Diego's small business community. Each year, the City's Office of Small Business administers more than $1.5 million in Small Business Enhancement Program (SBEP) funds and city-obtained Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for a wide array of business assistance programs. The City contracts with agencies to provide assistance, which ranges from training programs for the procurement of government contracts and minority business development to hospitality industry assistance and business development and retention efforts citywide. A prime example includes: The Contracting Opportunities Center (COC): The COC, which is partially funded by the City's Office of Small Business, helps San Diego businesses obtain contracts with local, state and federal government agencies. The Contracting Opportunities Center provides counseling, technical assistance and ongoing training seminars on subjects such as the basics of estimating, obtaining loans and certification, issues in e-commerce and, doing business with specific government agencies. The COC has helped hundreds of San Diego small businesses obtain millions in government contracts. For more information, contact the Contracting Opportunities Center at (619) 285-2070.
