On February 26, 2007, the San Diego City Council voted to increase City wastewater rates by 8.75% beginning May 1, 2007. Subsequent increases of 8.75%, 7% and 7% will become effective on May 1 of 2008, 2009 and 2010, respectively. The revenue generated by these increases is being used to operate, maintain, repair and upgrade the City's wastewater system.

On October 8, 2007, the San Diego City Council approved changes to wastewater rates. On November 1, 2007 wastewater rates were adjusted due to a class action lawsuit settlement that requires the City to reimburse eligible Single-Family Residential Customers $40 million over the next four years.
