Identity Theft
Identity Theft has become a topic of concern for many. Often times, a seemingly simple case of check or credit card theft does not end with a single fraudulent transaction. Some criminals take it one step further, assuming the actual identity of their victims. Subsequent fraudulent credit and loan applications, applied for in the name of the victim, can ruin credit history for years. The victim is left confused and frustrated as they deal with a seemingly endless parade of creditors and law enforcement officials. The Privacy Rights Clearinghouse has put together a helpful fact sheet on identity theft. Included on their web site are links to major credit reporting bureaus in the United States, some of whom allow you to report fraudulent use of your identity directly to them, on-line.
