| The new Skyline Branch Library will be a 19,100 square
feet facility located on Paradise Valley Road. The building will consist
of a new 15,000-square-foot library and current, 4,100-square-foot facility,
which will be completely renovated into a meeting facility.
The site is an L-shaped lot of approximately 3 acres. The building entrance
will be on the Paradise Valley Road adjacent to a large parking lot for
130 cars. A bus stop will be integrated with the design.
The branch will include a children's area, a multi-lingual collection
of materials and a computer center, as well as large book and audio-visual
collections and periodicals. The building itself will adhere to the City's
"green"
building criteria as an energy-saving facility. It
will be constructed from easily replenished materials and materials made
from recycled elements.
Also, the new Skyline Hills Branch will be home to one of four Preschooler's Door to Learning Centers at San Diego
Public Library locations. The centers are designed to promote school readiness from infancy, providing services for s
elf-enrichment and allow children to discover the pleasures of reading and learning. The centers are a designated portion
of a library designed exclusively for children younger than 5 years, their parents and caregivers. This area also includes
space and equipment for the Families for Literacy Program.
Schematic design and land acquisition have been completed.
